Id like to take two exact chips, 1 being a PIC loaded with the HEX of a compiled program from Proton, and the other a Picaxe.

The program should be something that both IDEs can support (no float for Picaxe, etc..).

Id like the chip to be able to measure the elapsed time for a given loop and print the results.

Im a tad lost on a few points. Such as, should the timing be in us or ms? What would be something that would test the chip's capacity that would give better real world performance numbers? I am thinking some type of mathematical computation, then maybe set a pin high then low a few cycles, etc.. etc..

What would be your suggestions?

Thanks,
Andrew

If you're going to try and compare the picaxe against a compiler, you should probably use msec for the picaxe and usec for the compiler.

You could probably stop right now and just say "wow, what a difference".
