I read the specs for this chip and thought "Wow. I need to use it for something!"
The NXP PCS9955ATW has some amazing specs. It has 16 channels the will drive strings of LEDs at up to 57mA/20 volts. Each channel can be separately controlled using I2C, including automatic ramp-up/fading over different time periods. Some of the features are listed below. These chips also use a unique I2C addressing scheme to allow up to 125 devices on one bus!
The cost for all this awesomeness? A few bucks at Digikey.
