True, but I still want to understand the predicament that presented itself. Hint Hint :)

So normally, using a 2n2222 or any similar NPN transistor, you would use it to "gate" ground to the attached load right?
SO what do you do if the ground to the NPN is actually 6vdc higher than the ground used for the device supplying the signal?
I can't seem to get an image in this post from a simple link, so I will create my own illustration for the next post in a few minutes.

I hate to burst your bubble but....I'm not a big analog guru!

I would think to turn the transistor on(...er...off?), the base will will have to be a couple volts higher then the collector. Seems like this probably takes a pair of transistors to do properly.

An opto coupler might be the ticket.....
